Space between buildings is an essential proven element which gives character to a physical place. In our proposal, this is given a lot of attention and a variety of urban spaces are proposed.

  1. The Crescent

  2. The central irregular open space

  3. The elliptical space at one of the mews

  4. The riverfront space

  5. The rectangular space between the mews

Central Irregular Open Space

2

Placed at the heart of the compound, the central open space is formed by placing rows of houses at irregular sides, creating a longitudinal axis which results in a diversity of views from the serambi units.

Riverfront Space

4

The riverfront space covers the entire stretch of the compound that faces Sungai Perai, allowing for leisurely strolls along the river.

Crescent space modelled after the Royal Crescent of England

1

Modelled after the Royal Crescent of England, the crescent space delivers a grand first impression for visitors upon entering the compound.

Elliptical Space

3

The elliptical space is adjacent to the central irregular open space with connecting nodes.

Rectangular Space between Mews

5

With this innovative design, the traditionally neglected back lane of houses are transformed into a vibrant space between the Mews.

Fusion of traditional Serambi design with terrace unit

Each unit has a special space called “Serambi” which is located at 2.4m height behind the car park.  This is an interpretation of the traditional serambi where the guests can be entertained.

At the entrance foyer, there is a staircase which leads to the serambi, then this staircase continues to the first floor of the house.

Guests can be entertained here without letting them enter the more private space of the rest of the ground floor.
